Sun-Drenched Disasters
2021 at
Myymälä Gallery, Helsinki

The exhibition Sun-Drenched Disasters is the first part of a cultural exchange between Puerto Rican and Finnish artists initiated by curator Timo Tuhkanen and Pedro Vélez. The project was possible to a grant by the Kone Foundation and Saari Residence. Due to Covid restrictions the residency had to be completed in Puerto Rico and not in Finland. We completed the residency in the coastal town of Cabo Rojo and in the mountains of Adjuntas. Special thanks to curator Mariel Quiñones and as well as collector Jerome O’Neil for hosting us in their respective homes in Adjuntas. And to artist Arnaldo Román for serving as chef.

Artists: Lilliam Nieves, Pedro Vélez, Gretchen Ruíz Ramos.

Soundtrack for the exhibition by Opera Coquí: Yaritza Zayas, Ernesto Busigó, Patricia Vasquez, Christian García, Rafael Lebrón

Curated by Dr Timo S. Tuhkanen and Dr. Dianne Bràs-Feliciano
A physical catalog for the exhibitions is available upon request. A digital version is avaliable in the LINKS section of this weebsite.

During the high impact residency I completed 12 photographic posters, 3 large scale paintings, and 2 photographic combines with components sculpted in acrylic paint.
