Portfolio > Surrender Flags and Crying Handkerchiefs (2014-2018)

The woods are repurposed or salvaged from hurricanes Hugo (1989) and María (2017)

The ripped flags are meant to be crying handkerchiefs. The flagstaffs are based on twitter wings. Like SOS signals to the world after the imposition of the 20 22 Act and the oversight board.

The series is in collaboration with master sculptor and educator Luis Manuel Rodríguez from 2014-2018. We made 15 flags as well as several other sculptures and installation components. One flag (“Fall Leaves. Leave”) was reworked in 2024.
