Election Cycle Allegory
Election Cycle Allegory: Seedy Eyes and Crying Handkerchief
(Imagery includes: crossbones bonfire, garments, crying handkerchief, seedy eyes like old man’s balls, pushpins = communal bulletin board propaganda/facebook)
In 2016, when the electoral racist and sexist hateful rhetoric was gaining momentum, I was working on a large live wall collage/mural during my residency at he Evanston Art Center in Chicago. The thematic residency series was curated by Jessica Cochran.
We called it “live” because visitors and people from the community were welcome to look and talk with me while I was designing the mural. The large collage was based on some of those conversations with people from “both sides”. It was frustratingly clear to me at that moment that the hateful candidate was going to win.
Metarials: Acrylic paint on wall and raw canvas, Sharpie, pigment print and painted push pins. And a pigment print with graphite interventions.
