Paintings 2020-2024
The title “Demesne” comes from a lively description of a property by Jane Austen in her novel Sense & Sensibility. My painting is not an imaginary landscape. I have been to this place in the mountains, and I have photographed it. In a sense, the piece represents the longing for an unattainable piece of land I don’t have access to. Demesne is a pessimistic reflection on not having financial freedom or the freedom to choose where to live or work. The key, tree trunk, and the leaf with sentinel eyes are heavily influenced by the Italian Transvanguard painters.
Private collection in Old San Juan. Puerto Rico.
